Flow into Fall

You got this! It’s time to flow into a new season. Only this season is unlike any that has come before. Typically a time of coming together and turning in, Autumn comes with the new challenges: building your immunity, wearing your mask, adapting to new work and school schedules or perhaps facing further isolation as a retired person. It’s change on top of change! Again, you have the resources to do this and Chinese medicine can help.

One of Taoism’s most beautiful sayings translates to “the Tao is big”, suggesting that whenever we experience conflicts, setbacks, disappointments, frustrations, tragedies, or losses, we must “zoom out” our metaphorical camera lens until we see things in the largest possible context.

From the vantage point of the clouds, the solar system, the galaxy and beyond, our problems (indeed our very lives) are insignificant indeed. This point of view helps us to live like water, flowing freely, avoiding limiting attachments, going happily wherever we are needed without judgment or reservation, nurturing the world around us so it may flower and grow, all while never taking ourselves too seriously.

Meditative, spiritual thoughts are vital in Chinese Healing Arts. Having a tough time getting there? Acupuncture can deeply reset the system and aid in the journey. Rest comfortably and take the 25-30 minutes to meditate or simply rest. Bonus: acupuncture naturally boosts the immune system. During the seasonal shift the properties of some acupuncture points change, and some meridians are more likely to be affected than others (like lungs and large intestine meridians in Autumn. I can tonify the meridians preemptively which will optimize your healing energy. It’s a great time for a tune-up!

Looking for more support with your seasonal shift? Try daily qigong moving meditations with yogi.com. There are free youtube exercises there to start your day. I do the “daily energy routine” and it just takes 15 minutes. Get focused this Fall!

Foods also shift with the season, so try warming up your diet. Transition out of a lot of raw cold food and warm it up. My new favorite is WildBrine Kimchi with a smear of goat cheese on a multigrain toast -- double yum and it’s fermented. Good for the gut!

So make the move and embrace the seasonal shift. It’s time!
